Whether performing in the greatest opera houses or the world’s largest sports arenas, Luciano Pavarotti captivated audiences as few artists have done in any era of singing. His matchlessly gleaming, effortless sound was always enhanced by superb musicality, but there was something more that reached out to Pavarotti’s listeners: his infectious joy in performing, with a singular humanity enriching every note he sang. As an artist, Pavarotti wanted nothing more than simply to tell a story that everyone who heard him would remember.

During 45 remarkable years as a professional tenor, he graced the stages of cities the world over – from Beijing to Belfast, New York to Naples, and the Amazon to Amsterdam – and his 40-year relationship with the esteemed British record label, Decca, produced a legacy of recorded music that remains unsurpassed in our times. 

Music was at the heart of his existence, and never before had a classical singer embraced so many diverse and adventurous genres of music and entertainment.  From the operatic greats of the 19^th century, through to the Neapolitan songs of his homeland and the pop and rock classics of the turn of the 21^st century, Pavarotti’s passion and drive, and the remarkable achievements that followed, would change the face of music forever.
